Protect Your Pipes: Only Flush Toilet Paper!

A new message from Bellingham’s utility workers reminds residents of an important rule: Only TP in the Toilet! While it may be tempting to flush other items, doing so can lead to serious plumbing problems, costly repairs, and even sewage backups in your home and neighborhood.

What NOT to Flush

Even if a product is labeled as “flushable,” it can still cause blockages in your pipes and the city’s sewer system. To avoid plumbing issues, never flush:

  • Paper towels
  • Facial tissues
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • “Flushable” wipes (these don’t break down like toilet paper!)

These items should always go in the trash. Flushing them can clog pipes, damage sewer infrastructure, and even lead to wastewater backups in your home or neighborhood.

Keep Your Pipes Clear
